Privilege of King Sigismund I transferring the municipal villages of Lwów, Zubrza and Sichów, to Magdeburg law
King Sigismund I transfers the villages of Zubrza and Sichów, belonging to Lwów, from land law to Magdeburg law, subordinating them to the authority of the mayor and city council. He exempts the inhabitants and councilors from the jurisdiction of land and castle officials and from all duties and military expeditions, obliging them only to pay the municipal tax (szos) together with Lwów.

In the name of the Lord, amen. For the eternal memory of the matter. Since human deeds, however worthy of memory, easily pass away if they are not entrusted to memory through writing, therefore we, Sigismund, by the grace of God King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, and also lord and heir of the lands of Kraków, Sandomierz, Sieradz, Łęczyca, Kuyavia, Ruthenia, Prussia, Chełmno, Elbląg, Pomerania etc., announce by the wording of this [document] to all and each one individually, present and future, who will have knowledge of this:
That we, having regard to the numerous merits and benefits of the illustrious mayor and councilors of our city of Lwów, by which in times of peace and war, with due fidelity and submission, they have most diligently earned memory for themselves from us and our ancestors and the Commonwealth of our Kingdom, and strive to earn more with each passing day, and considering that the same mayor and councilors of this our city of Lwów have significantly depleted their assets publicly and privately, bearing numerous municipal burdens for the defense, fortification, and preservation of the aforementioned city of Lwów, and desiring to relieve them in bearing these burdens by our royal grace and to make them more capable and zealous for future services to us and the Commonwealth of our Kingdom itself, by our certain knowledge and royal will and with the consent of our advisors gathered at the current general sejm, we have deemed it proper to transfer and transpose their municipal villages, called Zubrza and Sichów, located in the Lwów district and established under land law, from this same land law to the municipal Magdeburg law, and we do transfer and transpose them, and we attach, assign, and incorporate these same villages to this same municipal Magdeburg law and the jurisdiction of the aforementioned mayor and councilors of Lwów, present and those who will be in the future, for eternal times, removing and releasing the aforementioned mayor and councilors and the inhabitants of these villages of Zubrza and Sichów from all jurisdiction and authority of all and individual voivodes, castellans, starosta, judges, and sub-judges, and any other land and castle officials and their servants of our Kingdom, as well as from summons and land and castle courts, so that from now on they shall be obliged to answer not before them, but before the mayor and councilors of Lwów themselves, present and those who will be in the future, in all matters, both great and small, and for offenses however heavy and monstrous.
Removing furthermore the aforementioned mayor and councilors of Lwów, present and those who will be in the future, just as we remove and make them free and exempt by the tenor of this document, by reason of the aforementioned villages of Zubrza and Sichów, from all general and particular military expeditions and from public contributions established and to be established for the needs of us and the Commonwealth, and from all other service and land burdens, to the performance of which other possessors of land estates are obliged by the law and custom of our kingdom. So that from now on these same villages, or the estates of Zubrza and Sichów, shall be considered not as land, but purely municipal, and shall enjoy and use this freedom and immunity which other estates of our aforementioned city of Lwów enjoy and use, and from them, no military service shall ever be performed again, but only the municipal tax, commonly called szos, whenever it happens to be established for the needs of the Commonwealth, shall be paid together with the city of Lwów itself for eternal times and forever.
In testimony of which our seal has been attached to this [document].
