In the name of the Lord, amen. For the eternal memory of the matter. Although the memory of all deeds that originate from the generosity of princes is worthily preserved so that it may be passed on to posterity; yet the memory of those which aim at the multiplication of divine worship and for the adornment and exaltation of His servants seems to us most worthy and highly beneficial to the mortal kind. Therefore We, Sigismund, by the grace of God King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, and also Lord and Heir of the lands of Kraków, Sandomierz, Sieradz, Łęczyca, Kuyavia, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Chełmno, Elbląg, Pomerania, etc. We make known by the tenor of this letter to all whom it concerns, both present and future, who shall receive knowledge of this. That We, considering within ourselves the dignity of the metropolitan church of Lviv, which is not considered the least among the other churches of our Kingdom in terms of dignity and gravity, and perceiving that its canons and chapter are insufficiently provided for according to its dignity with incomes and those things which belong to temporal maintenance, or indeed have become so impoverished that they barely have that with which they could satisfy the daily needs of life. And therefore, wishing to extend to them the right hand of our royal generosity and to alleviate their need, so that they may dwell more worthily in the same church and serve the Lord God more freely, with the advice and consent of the councilors of our Kingdom, we have deemed it proper to give, grant, and record by perpetual right to them and their chapter our village of Honiatycze lying in the Lviv district, which they previously held by pledge right for a certain sum of money, just as we hereby give, grant, and record it for their possession by hereditary and perpetual right, within the boundaries and descriptions written below by our commissioners, whom we have specially appointed for this purpose. First of all, the said village was demarcated within its boundaries by these our commissioners, namely: starting from an elm tree, commonly called elm (wyasz), situated opposite the mounds by the river Szczerzec (Zubrza), at the demarcation of the estates of Drohowyże (Drohowysz) and Demnia (demnja), our royal [estates], leased by the noble Paweł Tarło, judge of the Lviv land, on one side, and Wierzbica (wyerzbyaz), previously established as hereditary to the same Lviv chapter, on the other side. And from this elm tree, as stated above, standing by the river Zubrza [?], going across the swamp, otherwise Łopuch Błoto or Łahów (Lopuch blota albo lagw), two alder trees, or alder (olschowe), were cut in the shape of a cross, and on the bank of the said swamp by the fields belonging to the village of Honiatycze, earth was dug and heaped in the shape of mounds; then from these signs by and above the above-mentioned swamp, or Horysz Błota or Łahów (Horysz Blota, albo lagw), through the thickets, along the road that leads from the village of Honiatycze to the village of Demnia, above this swamp, or the track in the oak forest above this łahów (droziscze w dambrowye nad tem tholagyem), going, on both sides of the said road, signs were heaped from earth in the shape of mounds, by which one reaches the field called Niwka under the clearing (Niwka, pod oparzyskiem). And this same field runs through the middle, [with signs] in the shape of mounds it is demarcated. And finally, from this field, going further through the thickets, one reached the field called Stojło (stoylo) situated by the river Łozowica (Lozovicza), which field Stojło was also demarcated through the middle by signs heaped from earth in the shape of mounds; from the said Stojło through the middle of the thickets across, or across the oak forest (poprzeki Dambrowy), signs were made in the shape of a cross on the trees and earth was dug and heaped in the shape of mounds up to the public road, or the highway (do gosczincza). Which road leads from the village of Czerkasy (Czirkassy) of the same Lviv chapter to the village of Demnia, along which road earth was dug and heaped in the manner of mounds; and this demarcation and separation of the village of Honiatycze from our royal village of Demnia was made up to this place where the boundaries of the same villages written above, and at the same time of the village of Czerkasy of the same hereditary Lviv chapter meet, as we have fully understood from the letter of our commissioners issued to us in this matter, word for word, as expressed above. This village of Honiatycze, formerly ours, the said canons and the entire chapter of the metropolitan church of Lviv, present and for all future times, shall hold, have, and possess by hereditary and perpetual right according to the demarcation and description expressed above, from our royal donation and generosity, with all right, dominion, and ownership, and also with all and individual reeves, peasants, inhabitants, cottagers, chamberlains, innkeepers, houses, plots, gardens, inns, mills and their profits, rents, payments, tributes and honey dues, and stations, oats, geese, hens, eggs, apiaries, bee-hives, bees and honey derived from them, penalties, labor services, duties, corvée, aids, forests, woods, brushwood, groves, thickets, forests and their clearings, pastures, fields, meadows, fields, swamps, lakes, waters, fisheries and their draining, fish catches, streams, brooks and watercourses, hunts, fowling and in general with all and individual profits, fruits, incomes, revenues, benefits, incidents, appurtenances, connections and accessories of these estates, excluding absolutely nothing, belonging to these estates of Honiatycze in any way from of old, and such as by human foresight in the future may be found, arranged and prepared, as these estates extend in width, length and circumference from the demarcation and description expressed above in their boundaries, mounds and signs. So that the whole does not prejudice the part, and the part does not prejudice the whole in anything, and with all right, dominion and ownership they shall hold, have, use for ever and for all future times, as well as sell, give, exchange and turn to their own desired profits, as it shall seem most proper to the same canons present and for the time being and their chapter, leaving no right of ownership and inheritance to us or our successors there, but with this all right, dominion and ownership, as We and our predecessors held, had and possessed; and we give them from now on actual and current possession into the mentioned perpetuity, by whomever they wish, canceling and turning to nothing any form of records and redemption obligations, just as we cancel and turn to nothing, so that the said canons and chapter of the said Lviv church may enjoy our greater grace, generosity and royal bounty. The said village and heritage of Honiatycze, [as] their hereditary, and their possessors, the said canons, as well as their subjects, inhabitants of the said village, by similar advice and consent of the councilors of our Kingdom, we have deemed it proper to exclude and release, as we hereby exclude from the fullness of our royal power and authority, from land burdens and from military expedition, however and for whatever reason ordered or to be ordered at any time by us or our successors, and we include it forever into the freedom and ecclesiastical immunity, so that they may and should enjoy and use it, no differently than other ecclesiastical estates in our Kingdom and their possessors enjoy and use. In faith and testimony of all and individual these things, we have ordered this our perpetual privilege to be drawn up and strengthened by the attachment of our seal. Done and given in Kraków, on the Monday next after the feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle, in the Year of the Lord one thousand five hundred and thirty-seventh, in the thirty-first year of our reign. In the presence of the venerable and noble: Piotr Kmita of Wiśnicz, voivode and starosta of Kraków, marshal of our Kingdom and starosta of Spiš, Przemyśl and Koło; Stanisław Odrowąż of Sprowa, voivode of Podolia; Mikołaj Wolski, castellan of Sandomierz, master of the court of Her Majesty Queen Bona, our dearest spouse, and starosta of Sanok, Lanckorona, Łomża and Wizna; Piotr of Opalenica, [castellan] of Gniezno, master of the court of His Majesty Prince Sigismund, King of Poland, our dearest son, and starosta of Kościan and Olsztyn; Spytek of Tarnów, [castellan] of Radom and treasurer of our Kingdom, and starosta of Sieradz, Krzepice [?] and Brzeźnica; Seweryn Boner of Balice, [castellan] of Biecz and starosta of Oświęcim, Zator and Rabsztyn; Wawrzyniec Myszkowski of Sącz, Stanisław of Łask of Prenat, Marcin Myszkowski of Wieluń, Florian Bierzwieński of Konary – castellans; Paweł of Wola, vice-chancellor of our Kingdom, burgrave of Kraków and starosta of Gostynin; Stanisław Oleśnicki, dean of Kraków and cantor of Gniezno; Jan Wilamowski, cantor of Kraków and chancellor of Płock; Samuel Maciejowski and Jan Zbarski, canons of Kraków, our secretaries; Marcin Wolski, treasurer and chamberlain of our court, burgrave and standard-bearer of Kraków and starosta of Zakroczym and Błonie; Augustyn Kotwicz, our equerry, court standard-bearer; Hieronim Staszkowski, our master of the kitchen; and very many other dignitaries, officials and our courtiers, witnesses of the above.
