Bull of Pope Paul III to the Lviv Chapter regarding the appointment of Piotr as Archbishop

Paul, bishop, servant of the servants of God, to his beloved sons, the chapter of the church of Lviv, greeting and apostolic blessing. Today, for your church of Lviv, which was deprived of the comfort of a shepherd by the death of the late Bernardyn, formerly Archbishop of Lviv, who passed away outside the Roman Curia, we have, with the counsel of our brothers and by apostolic authority, provided for the person of our beloved son Piotr, elect of Lviv, who is dear to us and our brothers due to the requirements of his merits, and we have established him as its archbishop and shepherd, entrusting to him the full care and administration of the said church in spiritual and temporal matters, as is more fully contained in our letters drawn up regarding this. Therefore, we command your prudence by apostolic letter that you be humbly submissive to the said Piotr, elect, as father and shepherd of your souls, and showing him the due and devoted obedience and reverence, accept his salutary admonitions and commands with humility and strive to fulfill them effectively. Otherwise, the sentence which the said Piotr, elect, shall lawfully pass against the disobedient, we shall deem valid and, by the grace of the Lord, shall cause it to be observed inviolably until worthy satisfaction is made. Given in Rome at Saint Peter's, in the year of the Lord's Incarnation one thousand five hundred and forty, on the day before the Kalends of June [May 31, 1540], in the sixth year of our pontificate.
