SIGISMUND AUGUST
by the grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, etc., lord and heir. We make known by the tenor of this present [document] to all together and to each one individually, present and future, to whom it is necessary to know and who shall receive information about this:
Presented before us in the name of the illustrious mayor and councilors of our city of Lwów was a document of entry [intabulation] originating from the council acts of our city of Piotrków, concerning the plot, house, and garden specified below, bearing the seal of the same city, intact and free from any mark of suspicion. And we were humbly requested to deign to approve and confirm this same letter of entry, and also to grant it our royal consent and validation. The words of this entry run as follows:
IN OUR PRESENCE, in the council residence, personally appeared the venerable Mr. Jan Kraska, Piotrków altarist of the local parish church in Piotrków in the Holyloy chapel, of his own free will and with our special consent, as the rightful patrons of the said altar, having chosen as his guardian the illustrious Maciej, furrier, our fellow citizen, acknowledged openly and clearly that he sold hereditarily his house with the plot and garden belonging to the aforementioned altar in the Holyloy chapel, lying behind the Kraków Gate, between the garden of the illustrious Wawrzyniec Schoynko on one side and Adam Rzymski on the other, with all and individual appurtenances to the said house, to the illustrious gentlemen mayor and councilors of the city of Lwów, present and currently in office; and for this same house, he confessed that he had safely and effectively received full and total compensation from the same gentlemen mayor and councilors from the hands of the illustrious gentlemen Andrzej Abrek and Jan Waiss, their honorable colleagues. And therefore, from this very house with the plot, garden, and its individual appurtenances, just as he himself held, possessed, and used it, as wide, far, and in circumference as it has long been delimited and marked off from other adjacent gardens, he relinquished his full right of dominion and ownership, and for eternal times in his name and that of his successors at the aforementioned altar, he renounced it in favor of the same gentlemen mayor and councilors, present and currently in office, for holding, possessing, and peaceful use and turning to their own benefits. From which house that venerable Mr. Jan Kraska, through the aforementioned guardian, has perpetually departed, with this special reservation that the same Lwów mayor and councilors, as mentioned above, present and currently in office, shall be obliged and ought to pay every year from these goods on the feast of Saint Matthew to the same Mr. Jan Kraska, the current possessor of the said altar, and to other altarists of the same altar for the time being, a rent of fifteen groszy of common currency circulating in the Kingdom, expressed in the act of erection, and the same Lwów mayor and councilors shall not be obliged to any other burdens, payments, or any other benefits – from which these goods shall always be free. To which the gentlemen Andrzej Abrek and Jan Waiss themselves, in their own name and that of their other brethren, expressed consent and submitted to it, requesting through a statement that this be entered into our acts, to which we consented and allowed. And then this happened in the Year of Our Lord one thousand five hundred and thirty-eight, on the Monday before the feast of Saint Valentine. Done in the Piotrków council acts.
We, therefore, acceding to the request of the aforementioned councilors of our city of Lwów, and also relying on the consent and confirmation of our divine Parent concerning the erection of the altar in the chapel of the parish church in Piotrków founded by the once deceased Stanisław Ozdora, a Piotrków citizen, presented to us in authentic form dated in Kraków, on the Saturday after the feast of Saint Margaret, in the Year of Our Lord one thousand five hundred and thirty-one, we approve, ratify, and confirm this same entry of purchase of the above-specified house, recognizing it as valid, by our certain knowledge, just as we hereby approve, ratify, and confirm it, deciding that the said entry – no differently than if it had occurred with the addition of our special consent – shall retain the power of eternal durability in all conditions, clauses, and articles. In witness whereof our seal has been appended to this present [document].
Given in Piotrków, at the general sejm of the Kingdom, on the Saturday before the upcoming feast of Saint Matthias the Apostle, in the Year of Our Lord one thousand five hundred and sixty-three, and in the thirty-fourth year of our reign.

Parchment document, state of preservation very good, parchment clean, initial letters of the header in Renaissance antiqua style. Royal seal in a wax bowl with a loss on the right side. In the transumed Piotrków document (from Monday before St. Valentine 1538, i.e., February 10, 1538) and in the transuming text, the document of Sigismund I from 1531 (Saturday after St. Margaret, i.e., July 15, 1531) is also mentioned. In the catalog card, the location of the garden and house was misinterpreted: the text speaks of Piotrków ('post portam Cracoviensem inter hortum Laurentii Schoynko...'), and not of the Kraków Gate in Lwów (even though the buyers were Lwów councilors).
