SIGISMUND AUGUSTUS, by the grace of God KING of Poland, Grand DUKE of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, etc., lord and heir. We make known by the tenor of this present [document] to all and singular whom it may concern: That we, yielding to the requests of some of our advisors, brought to us on behalf of the venerable prelates and canons of the metropolitan church of Lviv, and desiring in due time to prevent harm to the aforementioned prelates and canons for the glory of the name of God, our estates and villages of Honiatycze and Czerkasy, situated in the land of Lviv and the district of Szczerzec, which the said venerable prelates and canons possess and hold upon certain sums of money, legally recorded by our predecessors, the kings of Poland, and shown at this same general crown sejm in Warsaw and approved by the auditors appointed by us, ourselves, and the entire Senate of the Kingdom: we promise on our royal word and bind our successors, the Most Serene kings of Poland, that by reason of any necessity of the treasury or our royal table, or that of our Most Serene successors, the kings of Poland, or any other, we shall not redeem the aforementioned villages, nor shall we remove them from the possession of the said villages, nor shall we permit or allow anyone else to do so until the expiration of twelve years. Before the expiration of which, we shall preserve, and by these presents do already preserve, the said venerable prelates and canons in the possession of the aforementioned villages, just as they held and possessed them, and now also hold and possess them, with all their benefits, incomes, and revenues, both present and future, which may be devised by human foresight, excluding or omitting absolutely nothing, by whatever name they may be called.
In witness and testimony of which, our seal has been appended to this present [document]. Given in Warsaw at the general sejm of the Kingdom, on the twelfth day of the month of March, in the Year of our Lord one thousand five hundred and sixty-four, and in the thirty-fifth year of our reign.
