[Recto:] SIGISMUND AUGUST by the grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, etc., Lord and Heir. We hereby announce to all and each person concerned by this letter of ours: that although the venerable canons and the chapter of the metropolitan church of Lviv, through the generosity and benevolence of our most beloved divine parent and most illustrious King Alexander, our uncle, hold the possession and usufruct of the third measure from our mill in the suburb and at the Halych Gate of our city of Lviv by virtue of their privilege; yet, since at this present general assembly of our Kingdom some of our advisors earnestly requested us on their behalf that we, out of our royal grace, might deign to preserve and leave them in possession of the said mill, or its third measure, for a period of a certain number of years: We, therefore, having graciously heard their request, have deemed it appropriate to preserve, and hereby do preserve, the aforementioned venerable canons and the chapter of the church of Lviv in the possession and usufruct of our above-named mill in the suburb at the Halych Gate of Lviv and its third measure from now on for a period of thirty years, continuously and consecutively following one another. Promising by our royal word on our behalf and that of our most illustrious successors that we ourselves shall not take away or remove the possession and usufruct of the same mill and its third measure from the said prelates and canons for the needs of our table, treasury, kitchen, or any other necessity of ours and the Republic, nor shall we grant permission for redemption to any person, of whatever dignity, office, status, or condition they may be, and our successors shall not take it away nor grant permission for redemption for the above-designated time. If, however, anyone should receive and obtain from us letters contrary to these for any reason, we hereby deprive such letters of their force and deem them invalid and devoid of effect. When, however, that period of thirty years has elapsed, counting from the date of these presents, and when the sum from the third measure – without its increase or exceeding according to law – has been repaid to the same canons and the chapter of the metropolitan church of Lviv, the possession of the third measure shall return to us by full right. Our royal rights in the same mill remain intact. In witness and more evident testimony of which, our seal has been appended to these presents. Given in Lublin at the general assembly of the Kingdom, on the Monday next after the feast of Saint James. In the Year of our Lord one thousand five hundred and sixty-sixth, and in the thirty-seventh year of our reign. [Relational note on the right:] Relation of the Magnificent Walenty Dembiński of Dębian, Chancellor of the Kingdom of Poland, etc. [Note on the left margin:] This document is worth nothing, because this mill has a coat of arms[?] [...] and it is older[a] and [...] about five estates... Reading notes

Parchment document. Between the slits for the plica, the seal is missing (cut off or fallen off along with the parchment strip). The initial and the king's name are decoratively calligraphed. On the recto margin, there is a later gloss in Polish questioning the validity of the document. On the verso, there are old Latin regests and a note in Polish. Page 1 is the cover/card of the archival unit, page 4 is the microfilm control card.
