Jan Sienieński of Sienna, heir to Gołogóry, by the grace of God Archbishop of Lwów, together with all the brothers of his Lwów chapter. To all and each one individually, to whom it should be known, by this our letter we announce and make known that, having particular care and merciful regard for our subjects of Kozłów, belonging to the archbishop's table, who recently were completely devastated and almost razed to the ground by the enemy of the Crown, the Tatar, and were led into captivity along with all their possessions, wives, and children. So that those who remained only by the grace of God and were saved from enemy imprisonment might not disperse, but rather settle again on new roots as quickly and willingly as possible, and thus be able to increase the human [growth?] in free towns, and especially to attract and entice the long-fled hereditary [?] inhabitants of Kozłów. We permit them to settle anew, as if on new ground, in the manner of a town, under Magdeburg law, just as other archbishopric towns are founded, and especially Dunajów, which they are to imitate in all matters. And so that they may rebuild and organize themselves more quickly, we grant them an exemption for fifteen years, during which we make them free from all labor, rents, and taxes that they were accustomed to perform and pay before in times of peace. Only during these fifteen free years will they be obliged to plow one day a year for the Kozłów grange at the time of our arrival and that of our successors, the Archbishops of Lwów, and to sow and harvest it properly. On the second day, to mow and harvest that as well. In addition, they shall be obliged to perform all repairs at all Kozłów ponds and transport fish to the pond. Also, a cartload of wood for Christmas. And if there should be a need for court sessions in Lwów or in Trembowla, or wherever they are obliged by law, they shall provide a cart without complaint to the prosecutor or the servant sent for this purpose. And after the expiration of these fifteen free years, they shall be obliged to pay rent every year on every Saint Martin's Day, each of them sixteen groschen. Subtenants eight groschen, and lodgers four groschen. And every Friday, a weekday, or any other day of the week, to perform corvée labor, whatever is ordered, for the Kozłów grange. In addition, they shall be obliged to give two logs [of wood?] per year. Two cartloads of wood: one for Christmas and the other for Easter. They shall be obliged to give the 'powołowszczyzna' tax every seventh year. They shall also be obliged to provide carts for the law or for court sessions in this manner. And furthermore, they are to provide guard duty for the court, especially at the time of our arrival and that of our successors, the Archbishops of Lwów. They shall also be obliged to pay the bee tithe, every tenth bee, and if there is something over ten [...], then a settlement fee of one groschen for each hive. We also grant them the freedom to fish in the Kozłów ponds with a net on Wednesdays, Fridays, and other fast days, just as they have had from ancient times. For all other offenses, they are not to answer or be punished anywhere else but before their own hereditary wójt. All of which we promise to keep inviolably for them and our successors for all time. For which, for better faith, we have ordered our seal and that of our chapter to be attached to this letter and have signed it with our own hand. Done in Lwów on the twenty-second day of the month of September, at the main quarterly chapter gathered together, in the Year of Our Lord one thousand five hundred and seventy-seven. Present were: of the same audience [?], Stanisław Żochowski, custodian, Wacław Wyrzyanowski, Stanisław Dębieński, Jakub Wierzbieński, canons of our Lwów church, as well as the noble Jan Sadowski, Oleksy Zeleski, Andrzej Czapolski, [from among?] our servants, as witnesses summoned and requested for this purpose. Reading notes

Parchment document written in Polish. Good state of preservation, with minor creases and abrasions. Two wax seals preserved on parchment strips: of the Archbishop of Lwów Jan Sienieński (Dębno coat of arms) and the Lwów cathedral chapter (cracked across). The catalog card incorrectly lists the archbishop's name in the title as 'Сєненський Іван' (document text: 'IAN SIENIENSKY z Sienic na Gołogorach dziedzic', in the signature: 'Jan Arcybiskup Lwowski'), and 'Сєненського Яна' is also incorrectly written on card 1.
