[In the upper border, an illumination: miniatures of St. Peter, St. Paul, the IHS monogram / the Veil of St. Veronica / the Sacred Heart, and floral motifs] IN THE NAME OF CHRIST, AMEN. WE, ALEXANDER, by the mercy of God Bishop of Ostia, called Cardinal Farnese, Vice-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church, PROTECTOR of the pious and universal Confraternity of the Most Holy Body of Our Lord JESUS CHRIST, erected and established in the church of the house of the Most Holy MARY sopra Minerva in ROME, of the Order of Preachers, and SCYPIO Gonzaga, Patriarch of Jerusalem, CAMILLO Caetani and VIRGILIO Crescenzi, Roman patrician, administrators of the same Confraternity, to ALL and singular who shall see, read, and hear this public document of transumpt, eternal greeting in the Lord. We bear witness and certify that the Most Holy Father in CHRIST and our Lord, Lord GREGORY, by divine providence the Thirteenth Pope, desiring to endow the confreres of the same Confraternity with the gifts of indulgences and graces, granted them a certain letter, the wording of which follows word for word and is as follows: GREGORY, Bishop, Servant of the Servants of God, for a perpetual remembrance of the matter. The eternal Shepherd, who, in order to liberate the human race from the hands of that enemy, did not hesitate to offer Himself on the altar of the CROSS and to shed His most precious blood for the remission of our sins, and during the Last Supper, which He ate while celebrating the Passover with His disciples, in memory of such a great benefit, by divine and incomprehensible decree, set before them His body as food and His blood as drink, saying: "Do this, as often as you do it, in remembrance of me," we, though unworthy, holding the vicariate on earth and recalling in deep meditation that such is the loftiness and perfection of that most holy SACRAMENT that it can never be fully honored, never worthily (such is our frailty) adored, we cannot in any way refrain from inviting Christ's faithful, whom we see putting forth every effort and applying every diligence so that the Body of CHRIST of this kind may be most reverently reserved in churches, carried in processions, and brought to the sick, and piously received and frequently visited by Christ's faithful, to more zealously fulfill those promises, namely by indulgences and the remission of sins. So that those whose care has been entrusted to us, by recalling the memory of such a great benefit most often and giving thanks to its Founder with sincere devotion, may more easily achieve through such exercises what they cannot do by themselves. To the fulfillment of which we are even more encouraged when we recognize that for this reason, of his own accord (motu proprio), Pope URBAN the Fourth of blessed memory, our predecessor, proclaimed the perpetual feast of that Most Holy Body of CHRIST and encouraged those same faithful of Christ to celebrate it by the granting of indulgences. DESIRING, therefore, that the pious Confraternity of Christ's faithful under the invocation of the same Body of CHRIST, legally erected in the church of the house of the Most Holy Mary sopra Minerva of the Order of Preachers and approved and strengthened by Pope PAUL the Third of pious memory, also our predecessor, from which – as we have heard – abundant fruits have resulted, be adorned with special graces and favors, trusting in the mercy of almighty God and the authority of His holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to all and singular of Christ's faithful of both sexes entering the aforementioned Confraternity, who at the time of their entry, and to those of the confreres who on the day of the feast of the Body of CHRIST or within its octave, sincerely contrite, confess their sins and receive the same SACRAMENT, and likewise to those same confreres, also contrite and confessed, at the moment of their death, we mercifully in the Lord grant and bestow a plenary indulgence and remission of all their sins. FURTHERMORE, to those same confreres of both sexes residing outside the City [Rome], who on the days on which stations are appointed in the churches in the CITY and outside it, visit the altar or place where the SACRAMENT is reserved and, reciting the Lord's Prayer and the Angelic Salutation seven times, pray for the exaltation of the Catholic faith and for the eradication of heresy and infidels, [we grant] the same indulgences that they would obtain if they had visited that church in the CITY and outside it on that day where that station takes place. MOREOVER, to those same confreres visiting such an altar or place and praying as above every Friday [we remit] one hundred days. And every day on Maundy Thursday to those same confreres sincerely contrite and confessed – seven years and as many quadragenes. AGAIN, to those same confreres who piously receive the EUCHARIST at His altar on the third Sunday of every month and on Thursday on the Lord's Supper [Maundy Thursday] – ten years and as many quadragenes. FURTHER, to the same confreres as well as to other Christ's faithful of both sexes accompanying the aforementioned SACRAMENT when it is carried to the sick, and to those who, being hindered from this, kneel at the sound of the small bell and recite the Lord's Prayer and the Angelic Salutation once and pray for the sick – as often as they do this, one hundred days. And to those confreres who will accompany the SACRAMENT itself in the procession customarily held after High Mass on that third Sunday – one hundred days. AND LIKEWISE to those confreres sincerely contrite and confessed who visit the Lord's Sepulcher customarily erected on Maundy Thursday in the aforementioned church of the Most Holy Mary, we remit seven years and as many quadragenes from the penances imposed on them or otherwise in any way due. FINALLY, because it would be difficult to designate a specific place everywhere where the SACRAMENT is to be deposited, therefore let the SACRAMENT itself be deposited and placed either in the middle of the main altar or in another more convenient place according to the discretion of the local ordinary – if the church in which the Confraternity performs services is secular; if, however, it is religious, according to the discretion of the superior of that same church. AND SO THAT the veneration of this Most Holy SACRAMENT may be in greater respect, the more widely it spreads to different parts of the world, we GRANT to the same Confraternity, drawing up a letter about this with power lasting forever, that it may freely communicate the aforementioned graces and indulgences (except those which are gained by reason of the ROMAN stations) to other confraternities of the Most Holy SACRAMENT erected and to be erected outside the CITY by means of transumpts signed by the hand of at least one of the ministers appointed for this purpose, who possesses priestly ordination. Notwithstanding the above and apostolic, as well as particular or general constitutions issued in provincial and synodal councils, and all others to the contrary. WE WISH, however, that if any other indulgence has been granted to the aforementioned Confraternity by Us forever or for a time not yet expired, this one shall have no power or meaning at all. IT IS NOT PERMITTED, therefore, for any man to violate the charter of this our grant, remission, the last expressed permission and will, or to oppose it with rash boldness. If, however, anyone should dare to attempt this, let him know that he will incur the wrath of Almighty God and His holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Given in Rome at Saint Mark's, in the year of the Lord's Incarnation one thousand five hundred and seventy-three, on the eighth day before the Ides of August [August 6, 1573], in the second year of our pontificate. WHICH apostolic letter included and mentioned above, intact and whole, free from any defect and suspicion, we have seen, read, held, and diligently examined, and we have ordered it to be written in this form of public transumpt by the undersigned secretary of our aforementioned Confraternity, at the earnest request of the most enlightened and most reverend lord Archbishop of Lviv, envoy of the most serene King of Poland, for the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament erected in the metropolitan church in the city of Lviv, provided that a similar grace has not been previously granted there to another [confraternity] by our Confraternity. To which Confraternity and its confreres we, the protector and administrators mentioned above, representing our entire Confraternity, by this present public transumpt grant freely and for the love of God the graces and indulgences granted to us and our Confraternity by the letter inserted above (except those which are gained by reason of the ROMAN stations). DESIRING also and ordaining that the same faith be attributed to this present transumpt as would be attributed to the original letter included above, if it were presented or shown. IN FAITH and testimony of all and singular of which matters above, we have ordered this letter, that is, this present public document of transumpt, to be drawn up, and to be signed and proclaimed by the same secretary, and we have also ordered and caused it to be strengthened by the affixing of our seal. Given in Rome in the temple of the Most Holy Mary sopra Minerva, at our assembly, in the year from the Nativity of our Lord JESUS CHRIST one thousand five hundred and eighty-six, in the fourteenth indiction, on the fifteenth day of the month of July, in the second year of the pontificate of the most holy Father in Christ and our Lord, Lord SIXTUS, by divine providence the Fifth Pope. Reading notes

Parchment document preserved in good condition, richly illuminated (at the top miniatures of SS. Peter and Paul and Veraicon/IHS in a laurel wreath, on the sides a floral-Renaissance border). The text transumes the bull of Pope Gregory XIII of August 6, 1573 (Romae apud S. Marcum, 1573 VIII Idus Augusti, pont. a. 2). The catalog card incorrectly indicated Pope Paul III as the author of the main transumed bull (Paul III and Urban IV are only mentioned in the introduction to Gregory XIII's bull). The seal has not survived (holes and remnants of the cord are visible in the fold of the plica).
