SIGISMUND
The Third, by the grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, Livonia, and also hereditary King and future King of Sweden, etc. We hereby announce by this letter of ours to all and each one whom it concerns, that since the well-born Mikołaj Herburt of Fulsztyn, Castellan of Przemyśl and our Starosta of Lwów, moved by certain considerations, has granted and permitted [to use] to the honest Stanisław Tatar, already professing the Catholic faith, in the said starosta district near Lwów, a certain portion of land on the mountain commonly called Lion Mountain [Mons Leonis] – which extends from the estates of the well-born Jan Swoszowski, land scribe of Lwów, which lie to the north, along the ridge of the mountain towards the west up to the peak of another mountain, which lies to the south, where the vineyards of the Lwów burghers are located, and to the south it turns along the summit of another mountain, which lies towards the east near the borders of our royal village of Zniesienie to the north towards [...] namely the aforementioned Jan Swoszowski Barzyński [...] – and has interceded with us on his behalf so that we might deign to grant our consent to the aforementioned matters and recognize this grant as inviolable and permanent; We, graciously acceding to the intercession of the aforementioned, have deemed it right to express our consent to this grant, and we hereby agree to it, recognizing it as valid and lasting, and we give and grant to the aforementioned Stanisław Tatar the said land for cultivation – as it occupies the said place and in that part which has been agreed upon and as it has been described – with all benefits, revenues, and all income that they manage to cultivate and gain through human labor, to hold, possess, and use, while reserving for us [our rights], until the end of his life. Promising for us and our Most Serene successors that neither we nor our successors shall remove or displace the said Stanisław, as long as he lives, from this possession of the said land, nor shall we give anyone the power to remove or displace [him], but rather we shall preserve him in the use and possession as long as he lives. Provided, however, that the same Stanisław shall be obliged and compelled to pay ten groschen of Polish coin and count to the Lwów castle every year on every feast of St. Martin. Always with the preservation of our royal rights therein. In witness whereof, we have ordered this letter, signed by our own hand, to be affixed with the seal of our kingdom. Given in Warsaw at the General Sejm of the Kingdom on the twenty-ninth day of the month of September in the Year of Our Lord one thousand five hundred and ninety-two, and in the fifth year of our reign.
