SIGISMUND
The Third, by the grace of God King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, Livonia etc., and also the closest heir and future king of the Kingdom of Sweden.
We hereby announce to all and each one whom it may concern. That following the agreement or settlement of the Venerable Chapter of the Metropolitan Church of Lviv with the honorable mayor and councilors of the same city, regarding the presentation to the canonry of the Metropolitan Church of Lviv of a suitable clergyman, promoted to the degree of doctorate or also mastership, either in sacred theology, or in both laws, or in one of them – the second one besides the one which the same councilors, by ancient custom by virtue of agreements concluded with the same Venerable Chapter, are accustomed to grant to the doctors of the school, and this after the resignation or death of someone from the group of local canons thus decided: recognizing this agreement mutually concluded in the aforementioned manner as valid, we have decided that the same right of patronage, which belongs to us by virtue of our royal authority there to present, should be transferred and assigned to the same mayor and councilors of our city of Lviv, for the increase of God's glory and the good administration of the same Church. And so, by this our letter, we transfer and assign it by perpetual and irrevocable right. Namely, so that whenever, either by resignation or by the death of one of the canons, the aforementioned canonry becomes vacant, the aforementioned mayor and councilors, present and future, by virtue of the right granted by us, shall have the inviolable and perpetual right of presenting to this place such a person as described above. Therefore, to You, Most Reverend Father in Christ, Lord Jan Dymitr Solikowski, Archbishop of Lviv, and others currently in office, or their vicars in spiritual matters, or those having and to have authority for this, we announce, proclaim, and bring to notice this our transfer of the right of patronage to present to the canonry of the said Church, admonishing Your Paternal Grace that whenever the aforementioned canonry becomes vacant by resignation or death, when the said honorable mayor and councilors of our city of Lviv present to Your Paternal Grace the person defined above and chosen by their unanimous consent, you shall institute and invest him to the same canonry, by the duty of your pastoral office. In witness whereof, we have signed this letter with our own hand and ordered it to be affixed with the seal of our Kingdom. Given in Warsaw, on the eighteenth day of the month of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand five hundred and ninety-second, and the fifth year of our reign.
