IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, AMEN. For the eternal memory of the matter. WE, JAN DYMITR SOLIKOWSKI OF SOŁKI, BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND THE APOSTOLIC SEE ARCHBISHOP OF LVIV, ANNOUNCE by the tenor of this letter to those whom it concerns or may ever concern, to people of the present and future age: That a request was brought to us in the name of the noble and illustrious Mr. Jan Scholc Wolfowicz, councilor and citizen of Lviv, that we might approve, confirm, and incorporate into the immunity of the Church the DONATION inter vivos, [the right?] of patronage, presentation, possession, disposition, and all and individual rights whatsoever to the chapel under the invocation of the Holy CROSS in our metropolitan church of Lviv – erected in ancient times in the upper part, up the stone stairs from the northern entrance – made by the distinguished and noble Mr. Stanisław Dirowic of Przemyśl, doctor of medicine, councilor and citizen of Lviv, the true, sole, legitimate, and direct patron and possessor of the said chapel, in favor of the aforementioned Mr. Jan Scholc and his successors, purely and freely, simply and irrevocably forever, oblated before our office and in the acts of our same office; and likewise the foundation, that is, the dowry for the said chapel inscribed by the said Mr. Jan Scholc, namely the perpetual rent of sixteen florins, counting thirty groschen for each, secured and resigned in the municipal acts of Lviv, and assigned and established on the land and own tenement house of the same Jan, located on Halicka Street, between the tenement houses called Bassala on one side and Pajneskowska on the other, paid and disbursed to the rector or minister of the said chapel for its burdens, according to the formula of the foundation and the original ordinance, four florins in each quarter of the year. WE, therefore, having considered the special piety of the aforementioned Jan Scholc and his zealous effort for the spread of divine worship, and finally his merits for our metropolitan church, having primarily embraced with fatherly love his so pious and generous mind, recognizing the aforementioned donation inter vivos and the newly erected foundation and endowment as pious, righteous, and in accordance with common law; after examining and viewing the original documents of both the donation and the foundation, and also after completing all and individual actions which, according to law, style, and custom, are wont to happen in such cases, by our ordinary authority, we have unanimously admitted, approved, and confirmed, and also by these presents in all and individual their points, clauses, and articles, just as they lie and are detailed in the authentic or original documents, we admit, approve, confirm, and as if they were inserted here word for word, we grant them the fullest and perfect force by our decree; establishing that the aforementioned Mr. Jan Scholc, together with his legitimate successors, is and shall be for all eternity the sole, true, and legitimate patron and possessor of the said chapel. And the aforementioned endowment, thus approved and confirmed and assigned to the chapel itself, we incorporate into the freedom and immunity of the Church. BUT because a benefice is given for the sake of duty, we command the chaplain or minister for the time being, that he fulfill all and individual services and functions detailed in the original erection, under pain of excommunication and other penalties to be borne at the discretion of the ordinary, piously and religiously. Done and given in LVIV, on the twenty-eighth day of the month of April, in the YEAR OF OUR LORD one thousand five hundred and ninety-fifth. In the presence of the venerable, reverend, and noble: the reverend Mr. Wojciech Perlicki, canon and vicar general and official of Lviv, Stanisław Wiercisiński, canon, Wojciech Wądołowski, chaplain, Mr. Andrzej Napolski, Wojciech Długopolski, and many other witnesses called to the above. In testimony of which our seal has been appended.
