Translation / modern text

In the name of the Lord, amen. I, Father Jan Baranowski, Archdeacon of Lviv, make it known to whom it may concern, that I have sold half of my own house, next to my stable on one side, and on the other side next to Siemion the furrier, which I myself built from the ground up to the top on my own land, purchased from the nobly born Mr. Jerzy Humnicki and Mrs. Elżbieta Leśniowska, spouses, next to the court of the Venerable Chapter of the Metropolitan Church of Lviv (called the Leśniowski Court because the born Mr. Krzysztof Leśniowski, sword-bearer of Żydaczów, and his father before him held it for a long time by life tenure from the Venerable Chapter), for the sum of one hundred and fifty Polish zlotys, counting thirty groszy each, to the honest Fabian Gryglewicz and his spouse, and their successors and offspring for all time. This sum, as they have paid it to me in full at once, I release from the ground at their request, and [half] of the house they and their descendants are free to use for their best benefit. Except for keeping a tavern, which is not permitted to them there, nor any [...], I allow them for this half-house free [...] and [...] half of the courtyard, as it falls to this half-house, on equal terms with those who are to build opposite them, so that they shall also have a common free narrow passage between the stable for passing from the street. It shall also be permitted to gift, sell, or exchange this half-house, however, with the knowledge and permission of myself, and after my death, with the permission and knowledge of the Venerable Chapter of Lviv. Until that time, the said spouses and their descendants shall be obliged until the end of my life to pay me, and after my death to their graces the prelates of Lviv for my anniversary mass, a ground rent of five zlotys each year on the day of Saint Michael the Archangel. Over whom I also reserve for myself and their graces the prelates all authority and obedience. And from which may God deign to preserve – if any enemy, as on the borderland, were to demolish this building or burn it with fire, it shall be permitted to them and their descendants to erect another building according to their pleasure on the same land and to enjoy this same freedom for the aforementioned rent. And for the greater strengthening of this privilege, it is permitted to them, whenever they wish, to enter it into the books, whether capitular or municipal of Lviv, and now I sign it with my own hand and affix my seal to it. Done in the city of His Royal Majesty, in my Lviv canonry, on the twenty-eighth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty-two.
