Act of sale of a shop and plots in Lviv by Wojciech Belczyński to Wojciech Madeszowicz

In the name of the Lord, amen. + I, Wojciech Belczyński, canon and preacher of Lviv, testify to all whom it may concern that, with the permission of the Venerable Chapter, I have sold to the honest Wojciech Madeszowicz and his wife Anna Guzówna a shop on the preacher's land, built with my own money; furthermore, I have given them the plot on which the preacher's house stood, and the plot next to it, on which the shoemaker Adam Niemczyk lived – after the death of him and his wife – also on the preacher's land, lying on the burnt-out site. And since I have been satisfied by them [they paid the due amount], therefore, acquitting them, from this moment [ex nunc] I transfer the possession of the shop and the aforementioned lands to them, allowing them to use the shop and to build on the aforementioned plots and lands according to the same measurements as were built before, in which they shall be free, as it was before, to run a tavern and derive honest profits for all time; and when they wish to sell, exchange, or gift these buildings to whomever they wish, provided that it is not to a person of noble status and that they are of the Roman Catholic religion, yet to no one without my permission or that of my successors. And the well shall be shared by them with others. However, they shall be obliged to pay me and my successors a rent in the amount of ten zlotys of Polish currency each year on the day of Saint Martin the Bishop and to contribute to the maintenance of the local neighbors. And I reserve for myself and my successors full jurisdiction over them and over those who will live there as tenants, promising them, together with my successors, every defense. And for the confirmation of this, I sign with my own hand and that of the chapter procurator, and I affix my own seal along with the chapter's. Done in Lviv in the canonry, in the preacher's residence, on the twenty-first day of April in the Year of Our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty-five.
