Translation / modern text
In the name of Christ, amen. In the year of His Nativity 1637, on the 24th day of November. In the village of Candide in Comelico, in the new house of the undersigned Mr. Giacomo and Mr. Leonardo, his brother. In the presence of Valentino de Coluto from the said place and Gregorio de Uodo as witnesses, etc. Where, when Antonio, son of the late Nicola de Quando from Santo Stefano in Comelico, appeared, being a rent debtor to the noble Mr. Giacomo Glerius from the aforementioned Candide for the amount of one hundred lire from the field called della Riva, as well as one hundred lire currently received by the said Antonio in cash paid from the purse by the aforementioned Mr. Glerius in the presence of me, the notary, and the witnesses; and wishing the said Antonio to repay such debt for himself and his heirs, by free and own right and in perpetuity, he sold and delivered [...] to Mr. Giacomo Glerius, present and buying and accepting for himself and his heirs, a piece of arable land called “i cortas” in its size, located in the dependencies of the municipality of Santo Stefano, in a place called dal pe de Rove, within the following boundaries: namely, from the morning [east] it borders the millstream of the mills of Santo Stefano, from the south with Santo Stefano Monaco, from the evening [west] with the road, and from the north with John the Baptist, son of Bartolomeo de Buzze, with the reservation of etc., to possess, hold, use, and whatever etc., along with all rights and claims belonging and pertaining to the said sold property. At a price to be determined by experts or by a public court appraiser, for which the seller acknowledged having received two hundred lire, that is 200 lire, owed as above, waiving any objection of non-receipt of the said amount, as well as promising to provide a warranty against eviction and to maintain possession of the thing sold as above in due form, under the pledge of all present and future goods.
With the condition that the seller may, within a period of six years, starting from today, redeem the sold item upon returning the aforementioned sum owed as above in cash, and not otherwise; and during this time he is obliged, as promised, to pay as lease rent a rate of six lire per hundred each year on the day of Saint Michael; and in case of failure of such payment at the said time of Saint Michael, he is obliged by the day of Saint Martin to give one measure [calvea] of rye per hundred. Provided that in case of default [...] in the payment of the rent in the manner specified above, he loses and shall be considered to have lost the benefit of redemption, because it was so agreed between them. With the addition of this reservation and condition that the field of land della Riva remains nevertheless pledged to the same Mr. Glerius in any case.

Reading notes
Notarial instrument written on a narrow strip of parchment, bottom right corner cut in an arc. Notarial cursive script, the lower part with the notary's signature is faded and partially erased. The document concerns the sale of arable land with the right of redemption (venditio sub pacto de retrovendendo) within 6 years for the sum of 200 lire. The catalog card incorrectly lists 'Glerio Francesco' as a party to the contract – Francesco appears in the note on the verso (as a clergyman/cleric or related person), whereas in the main text the buyer is Giacomo Glerio (Jacobus Glerius) from Candide, and the debtor/seller is Antonio, son of the late Nicola de Quando from Santo Stefano.
