Translation / modern text

WŁADYSŁAW IV, by the grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, Livonia, Smolensk, Chernihiv, and also hereditary King of the Swedes, Goths, and Vandals. We hereby announce to all and each person concerned. We consider that our city of Lwów has erected a strong fortress against the invasions of barbarians and the hereditary enemies of the Cross that brings salvation, generously erecting in its suburb a convent of the Order of Friars Minor Reformed of St. Francis of the Province of Our Lady of the Angels and piously dedicating it to the care of Saint Roch. For by the peculiar piety of this Order, the holiness of life, and their prayers, not only that city, but also our Kingdom and provinces are successfully protected. Therefore, when a request was submitted to us that we should confirm and ratify the foundation of that convent with our royal authority, we willingly inclined our mind to this request and recognized the said foundation in its entirety as worthy of confirmation and ratification, just as we confirm and ratify it by this our letter. Furthermore, the plot and land held and occupied by them by virtue of the foundation, exempting them from all public, private, and municipal burdens and charges, established or to be established, we assign to ecclesiastical liberties for all time and forever. In witness whereof, we have ordered this letter, signed by our own hand, to be affixed with the seal of the Kingdom. Given in Warsaw, on the 4th day of the month of April, in the Year of Our Lord MDCXLI, the 9th year of our reign in Poland and Sweden. [King's autograph:] Władysław King.
