IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, AMEN
In eternal memory of the matter.
ALMIGHTY GOD, King of kings and Lord of lords, has endowed as many people as He has stewards and dispensers, some with more, others with less, according to the capacity and state of each, to be used for benefit and profit. Certain goods, or—as the Lord Himself says—talents, are common to all, such as the soul, the body, and what pertains to them, as well as all creatures given for the common use of man, so that he may use them or not, for the greater glory of the Creator and for the better attainment of the goal, that is, eternal happiness. To some, however, the merciful and just Lord has granted more and greater gifts, both in soul and body, as well as in external goods, and above all in more abundant grace, through which
[f. 1v:]
they arrive at a more perfect knowledge of Him, love, and a fuller participation in the fruits of His death and merits, and then shine with more distinguished glory far above others. Yet He has deprived no one of His grace and gifts so as not to grant him the means sufficient for salvation, provided that they proceed where the light leads them and grasp the given gifts, until they reach the means necessary for salvation—granting each His gifts according to the inscrutable wisdom of His Divine Majesty and distributing to each according to His will. Finally, there is no one who could justly complain of divine goodness and generosity, who would not only have received [means] sufficient for salvation, but also more than he deserved and for which he would be able to render a good account. Therefore We, JAN TARNOWSKI, by the grace of God and the Apostolic See Archbishop of Lviv, perpetual administrator of the abbey in Mogiła, announce to all and singular, present and future, that the most illustrious lord STANISŁAW GŁOWIŃSKI OF GŁOWNO, land judge of Halych, owner of the villages of Młyniszcze and others, pondering time and again in the depths of his heart those immeasurable and ineffable, poured-out benefits of Almighty God, mindful of the account to be rendered for what was given and received, which he intends to render in a sufficient manner; desiring to return to the Lord God whatever he has multiplied of the talents given by Him, while vital forces still govern him, anticipating the final hour, inflamed with the zeal of piety for the propagation of Divine worship and the adornment with new splendor and ornament of the dignity of the prelatura of the Church—the Bride of Christ, founded without spot or blemish, planted by the labors of His most bitter Passion and sprinkled with His most precious blood, after the pattern of that heavenly Jerusalem illuminated by various splendors of stars and glorious brightness of the saints—so that all the more in this same Metropolitan Church of Lviv in Rus', not only surrounded by schism but also exposed to daily incursions of enemies (by whom we have been oppressed in these past times), the glory, honor, and fame of Almighty God and the Mother, Blessed Mary the Virgin, might increase, and the clerical state
[f. 2r:]
and the knightly state, which constitutes the more distinguished part of our Commonwealth, might endure in its strength, and so that men skilled in the fine and liberal arts for God, His glory, and the Church, as well as for the prosperity of the Fatherland, could nowhere and in no way be lacking; holding in all things and through all things counsel and agreement with the Venerable Chapter of our Metropolitan Church of Lviv, our brothers, with the addition also of our consent made and shown in every measure, he decided to found and endow from a new root the prelatura of cantor among other prelatures and a canonry at the said Church of ours in Lviv, as from now on for the endowment and foundation he has given, donated, and recorded his hereditary goods, that is, the whole and intact villages of Młyniszcze with the grange and the small castle of Zabłotowce with the grange, lying in the Ruthenian Voivodeship, in the land and district of Żydaczów, with all right, jurisdiction, and ownership, according to the regulation specified below, and we were entreated to deign to accept this same pious and glorious intention, record, and donation and to approve it with ordinary authority. We, having heard and carefully reviewed all the above circumstances, and also having carefully considered the earnest request made by the said illustrious lord founder, deemed it right to graciously accede to it and, desiring to entrust it to eternity as much as lies in Our power, and also wishing that the rule of law and the practice adopted in such and around such matters be duly fulfilled and customarily applied, we decided first that warning letters in the power of a general summons against all and singular who might claim any right and interest jointly or severally to the above, with a sufficient term—not wishing to proceed rashly in the above, nor that it should seem that we cause harm to anyone through any rashness—be issued and we ordered the same to be duly and lawfully announced and presented in certain churches by public edict or by nailing to the doors of the churches before the

people gathered for the hearing of services. Therefore, at the term resulting and falling from these same [letters], duly—as it turned out—executed and announced, appearing before Us the above-mentioned illustrious lord GŁOWIŃSKI, LAND JUDGE OF HALYCH, accused of non-appearance all and singular who, claiming any right and interest jointly or severally, were summoned by these same warning letters, and not appearing and not hindering the effect of the same, and requested that they be considered as not appearing and because of their non-appearance, the record of the donation of his own and hereditary goods, namely the intact villages of Młyniszcze and Zabłotowce, with all right, jurisdiction, ownership, profits, benefits, appurtenances and attachments, boundaries and circuits, excluding none in general or in particular, before the Lviv kaptur court on the Thursday before the feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Year of the Lord one thousand six hundred and sixty-nine for the foundation of the prelatura of the cantory and canonry for the benefit of the Venerable Chapter of the most illustrious and most reverend prelates and canons of Lviv, present and existing for all time, testified and declared according to the crown constitutions after a prior oath, he presented, and also requested and earnestly demanded that it be accepted, approved, confirmed, ratified, provided with the power of ordinary authority and eternal durability, as well as a decree issued for this; that the said villages of Młyniszcze and Zabłotowce with all their attachments and appurtenances be assigned, attached, incorporated, and included to their ecclesiastical immunity, and thereby to the Venerable Chapter of our Metropolitan Church of Lviv; and on these same goods, or otherwise according to the ordinance made and described in the acts of the Venerable Chapter with our consent, [the canonry] called the Głowiński canonry, as well as the prelatura of the cantor, were erected, founded, and endowed. Which canon, by reason of the recorded goods and incorporated into the Venerable Chapter, shall participate in all and singular incomes, rents, revenues, profits, obventions, and daily distributions together with other lords canons; the cantor
[f. 3r:]
chosen from among the lords canons shall receive two hundred Polish zlotys each year from the Venerable Chapter from the said goods of Młyniszcze and Zabłotowce; the burdens by title of this same foundation—and those due to the cantor by the provision of canon law, and also that every week he shall celebrate one read mass before the high altar for his soul, if he himself is able, otherwise by a substitute, when he is hindered by illness or absent, and shall always reside; and to the Głowiński canon, who should be admitted to residence, to public functions, to the courts of the Crown Tribunal, and other duties for the adornment of the Church and the Commonwealth to be performed, and to bear all capitular burdens, and with the office with other lords canons, prelates, and canons to the stall, active and passive voice, prerogatives, share in income, seniority; which canon shall celebrate two masses for the soul of the founder at the high altar each week—[he requested to] impose and under the burden of conscience oblige to fulfill. To reserve for himself the right of presentation of the Głowiński canon and the cantor for the time of his life, and after his death, in case of a vacancy: and first the cantor, who is chosen from the midst and body of the most reverend lords canons, just as other prelates, with the inclusion nonetheless of the Głowiński canon, if and insofar as he proves to be capable and worthy and is found to be well-deserving for the Church, is to be chosen; the canon—who is from the Głowiński family of the ROCH coat of arms and no other, provided he proves to be capable and worthy, otherwise, in the absence at that time of a capable person from his Głowiński family, then another from a noble family, useful to the Church and the Commonwealth, is to be presented to the Venerable Chapter, the most reverend lords prelates and canons of our Church of Lviv; to which presentation the Venerable Chapter shall not proceed until it learns of persons from the Głowiński family claiming the clerical state or being in it, and that within the term designated by law, namely after the lapse of three months, and after prior warning letters to be announced in the parish church of the town of Głowno in the Gniezno archdiocese—[he requested to] join, assign, apply, and prescribe, decide other things necessary and appropriate in such and around such matters as any-
[f. 3v:]
and to issue and draw up the letters of erection and confirmation needed for this in legal form, he requested and demanded with due petition. In the presence of the most illustrious and most reverend lords: Paweł Leszczyński, dean of Kamieniec, procurator of the Venerable Chapter of the Metropolitan Church of Lviv, Mikołaj Żychliński, doctor of both laws, canons of Lviv, appearing in their own name and in the name of the Venerable Chapter of the most reverend prelates and canons of our Church and accepting all the above matters as valid and pleasing, and praying for their approval and confirmation. Therefore We, JAN TARNOWSKI, Archbishop of Lviv, having heard the above, seeing the warning letters, as said, issued and duly and lawfully announced, considering the earnest request and wish made by both the mentioned illustrious lord GŁOWIŃSKI and the most illustrious canons, we deemed it right to graciously accede to them as consistent with law and justice; and first, all and singular claiming any right and interest jointly or severally to the said foundation and erection of the Głowiński canonry and cantory, summoned by the said warning letters, and not appearing, and not hindering the effect of the above-described warning letters, the request and the motion, we considered and declared as not appearing, at the prompting of justice; and because of their non-appearance, we accepted the record of the donation of the above-mentioned goods, specified from the act, we approve, confirm, ratify in all its points and clauses, we grant the power of ordinary authority and eternal durability and we issue a decree for this; the said goods, the villages of Młyniszcze and Zabłotowce with all their attachments and appurtenances, subject inhabitants, fields, meadows, arable lands, ponds, inns, profit and benefits and appurtenances, according to the boundaries and circuits described and marked out and inventories made for the above, we assign, incorporate, and join to the ecclesiastical immunity and freedom, and thereby to the Venerable Chapter of Our Metropolitan Church of Lviv; and with the existence of this same donation of goods, we deemed it right to erect and found, endow and provide the said incomes and profits, the prelatura of the cantor and the canonry called Głowiński in Our Metropolitan Church of Lviv among other capitular prelacies and canonries, as we also with the repetition of the name of Christ approve, confirm, ratify, join, assign, connect, found, endow, and erect. And above all the newly
[f. 4r:]
founded cantor we admit to all ecclesiastical priorities and prerogatives according to the disposition of canon law among other lords prelates, and we assign to the same a stall and place in the choir and a voice in the chapter after other lords prelates of an earlier foundation. Which right of patronage we reserve to the same during the life of the illustrious lord founder, and after his later death, in case of a vacancy, we transfer to the Venerable Chapter, the most reverend lords prelates and canons, so that they may choose from their own body from among the senior canons—eventually, if the Głowiński canon existing at that time proves to be capable and worthy and well-deserving for the Church, as calling the closer one—for eternal future times. To the Głowiński canonry newly founded and erected, we also reserve the right of patronage to the said lord founder. After his later death, to the said Venerable Chapter, the most reverend lords prelates and canons of our Church of Lviv, so that they may present from the Głowiński family of the Roch coat of arms, provided he proves to be capable and worthy, otherwise, in the absence from the same, another person from a noble family, useful to the Church and the Commonwealth; to which presentation, however, they shall not proceed until they learn of persons from the Głowiński family claiming the clerical state or being in it, and that within the term designated by law, namely after the lapse of three months and after the announcement of the said warning letters in the parish church of the town of Głowno in the Gniezno archdiocese, after making the choice of a more capable and worthy person, we deemed it right to reserve and transfer—that is, without changing the nature of the secular right of patronage, which regardless of such a donation is always to be considered secular, we transfer and reserve; and this same canon, in connection with the acceptance of the said donation of goods into the possession and disposal of the Venerable Chapter, to all prerogatives, priority, dignity, active and passive voice, seniority, option in the chapter, stall and place in the choir, housing with the fullness of canon law, annual incomes, quarterly distributions and any obventions and all benefits, which and what in particular seasons of the year concern the most reverend lords prelates and canons according to the statutes of the Venerable Chapter from the original foundation and ordinance, we admit and we want and establish to be admitted for future eternal times. And by title of such a benefice to all burdens, both common and private, just as other lords canons by reason of turn, and according to the duties prescribed to them, and also that every week he shall celebrate two masses during the life of the lord founder for sins, and after his later death for his soul at the high altar personally—or if he is hindered by chapter affairs and absent, by a vicar substitute of our Church—as well as to public functions, in the courts of the Crown Tribunal and other duties for the adornment of the Church and the Commonwealth to be performed and exercised, and personal continuous residence, or in times prescribed by law, we oblige, obligate and want to be obligated and burdened under the burden of conscience and the threat of the judgment of God, as well as under the penalties in law

described. Furthermore, in all and singular matters as ordered and prescribed above, any and all deficiencies, if any have occurred from law or fact in the above and around the above, we supply with Our ordinary authority, which we exercise in this scope of matters, and we order to be drawn up and issued the documents of approval, confirmation, ratification, assignment, erection, foundation, and endowment needed for this in the usual form. In faith and testimony of all and singular the above things, we ordered this [letter] signed by our hand to be strengthened with our seal. Given in Lviv, in Our Palace, on Friday the twenty-ninth day of the month of March in the Year from the Birth of the Virgin one thousand six hundred and sixty-nine, of the Roman indiction V, in the pontificate of our most holy lord, Pope CLEMENT of that name IX, in the year of his [space].

[f. 5r-6v: czyste karty pergaminowe oprawy]
[Okładka tylna: tłoczenie przedstawiające Matkę Boską z Dzieciątkiem w promienistej owalnej mandorli]
Document prepared in the form of a parchment booklet (fascicle) bound in parchment / leather with blind and gilded embossing (on the front cover the IHS monogram in the sun, on the back the Mother of God with the Child in a mandorla). On f. 1r there is a full-page, high-class miniature with gilding depicting the Mother of God with the Child, St. John the Baptist, and St. Stanislaus the Bishop. On card 4v, the autograph of Archbishop Jan Tarnowski and the archbishop's seal under a paper wafer (in a separate shot in photo 11, the wax under the paper is visible) are preserved, along with the signature of notary Adam Usman. EVIDENT ERROR IN THE ARCHIVE CATALOG CARD: the catalog card (photo 1) describes a completely different document (an alleged confirmation of the foundation of Jan Sobieski for the Bonifraters from 26.09.1659), while the entire unit contains only the erection of the prelatura of the cantor and the Głowiński canonry from 29.03.1669, founded by Stanisław Głowiński on the Młyniszcze and Zabłotowce estates.
