General confirmation of the rights and privileges of the city of Lwów by King Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki
King Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki confirms the totality of rights, privileges, and liberties granted to the city of Lwów by his predecessors. In particular, he approves the coronation diploma of John II Casimir from 1649 and the privilege equating Lwów in rights with Kraków and Vilnius.

MICHAŁ
By the Grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, Kiev, Volhynia, Podolia, Podlachia, Livonia, Smolensk, Severia, and Chernihiv, etc.
To all and each to whom it may concern, we hereby announce by this Our letter.
[On the left, an ornamental cartouche with the Korybut coat of arms under a crown]
We confess that among the primary concerns of those who rule, this one should be for Us the first and most important: that those through whose prayers, sighs, or free votes We have assumed the government of this most glorious Kingdom, may experience the mutual testimony of Our royal benevolence and favorable will. We can testify to this with no other more effective proof than by ensuring that they live and reside peacefully and securely under the same laws and privileges which they enjoyed under Our Most Serene Predecessors; although we confirmed them with a solemn oath at the altar of God, binding ourselves to their preservation and defense for all, yet at the request of the noble and prudent Marcin Anczewski, Our secretary and physician, and Jan Stefan de Rippa Ubaldini, councilors, and Tomasz Chrząszczowic, doctor of philosophy, secretary and syndic of Our city of Lwów, appearing before Our presence in their own name and in the name of the entire magistracy and commonalty to take the oath of allegiance, we deemed it appropriate to satisfy them, so that all their rights, privileges, letters, decrees, liberties, concessions, exemptions, plebiscites, prerogatives, and all other documents, both parchment and paper, issued and granted to them publicly and privately by any princes, lords, kings, and rulers, Our Predecessors, being just and lawful, generally confirmed, We also confirm the same, and in particular the letter of the Most Serene John Casimir, Our Dearest Predecessor, of the general confirmation
[f. 1v]
of the privileges of this Our city of Lwów, dated in Kraków at the diet of His dignified coronation on the 13th day of February in the Year of Our Lord 1649, as well as the diploma of equalization with the main cities of Our Kingdom, namely Kraków and Vilnius, granted and bestowed by the aforementioned Most Serene Predecessor of Ours and the estates of the Kingdom graciously to the aforementioned city of Lwów and its inhabitants for their merits amply rendered to Our Most Serene Predecessors, the kings of Poland, and the entire Commonwealth – have confirmed, strengthened, renewed, approved, and ratified. The contents of which, both in general and in particular, so that the generality does not repeal the particularity, and the particularity does not repeal the generality, we wish to have the same force and meaning as if they were included word for word in this letter of Ours, and in the possession and use of which [the burghers] have been and are hitherto, without any exception, by Our certain knowledge and by the advice and consent of the senators of the Kingdom sitting by Our side at that time, having regard to justice and fairness itself, through which – as we recognize – all laws and the happiness, peace, and durability of kingdoms and states are strengthened, especially in this present inaugural time of Our reign, when a praiseworthy custom arose among Our Predecessors, the kings of Poland, to lift up fallen laws and orders, to strengthen those lifted, to multiply those strengthened, and not only to preserve the ancient immunities, liberties, and prerogatives of all Our subjects, but also to introduce provisions for better government – in all their contents, conditions, clauses, articles, reservations, and paragraphs, we have deemed worthy of confirmation, strengthening, renewal, approval, and ratification, and insofar as they are in accordance with the law, we confirm, strengthen, renew, approve, and ratify them by this Our letter and ordain that all of them and each one individually shall always have the force and durability of due and inviolable constancy. For the greater faith and more evident testimony of all this, we have signed this with our own hand
[f. 2r]
and ordered it to be affixed with the seal of the Kingdom. Given in Kraków at the General Diet of the Kingdom of Our Happy Coronation, on the 9th day of November in the Year of Our Lord 1669, and in the first year of Our reign.
