POPE CLEMENT XIII
To all the faithful in Christ who shall see this letter, greetings and apostolic blessing. For the increase of the piety of the faithful and the salvation of souls, considering with pious love the heavenly treasures of the Church, to all the faithful in Christ of both sexes, truly penitent and confessed and refreshed by Holy Communion, who shall piously visit the cathedral church of Lviv – to which church and its chapels and altars, whether collectively or separately, or for the visitation of it or them, or their vigils, no other indulgence is granted – on three days of the year designated by the ordinary, from the first vespers until sunset of those days, each year, and there offer pious prayers to God for the concord of Christian rulers, the extirpation of heresies, and the exaltation of Holy Mother Church, on the day they do so, we mercifully grant in the Lord a plenary indulgence and remission of all their sins. This [letter] shall remain valid for only ten years. We wish, however, that if at any other time any other indulgence has been granted to the faithful in Christ for visiting the said church or chapel, or the altar situated therein, on any other day of the year, either in perpetuity or for a time not yet expired, or if anything, even the smallest amount, is given for the obtaining, presentation, acceptance, or proclamation, or is accepted as a voluntary offering, this [letter] shall be void. Given at Rome at Saint Mary Major, under the Ring of the Fisherman, on the 27th day of August, 1764, in the seventh year of our pontificate.
