Bull of Pope Pius VII to the Lviv Chapter regarding the appointment of Archbishop Andrzej Alojzy Ankwicz

Today, for the Metropolitan Church of Lviv, deprived at that time of the comfort of a pastor by the death of Kajetan Kicki, Archbishop of Lviv, of holy memory, We have decided, with the counsel of Our Brothers and by apostolic authority, to have regard for the person of Our beloved son Andrzej Alojzy, Count of Skrzynno Ankwicz, a cleric of the Diocese of Krakow and a licentiate of sacred theology, dear to Us and to Our Brothers by reason of the support of his merits, and We have appointed him as archbishop and pastor of the said [church], fully entrusting to him the care, governance, and administration of this Metropolitan Church of Lviv in spiritual and temporal matters, as is more broadly and fully contained in the letters drawn up regarding this. Therefore, We command your prudence by apostolic letter that you, being humbly submissive to the same Andrzej Alojzy as Father and Pastor of your souls, and showing him due and devoted obedience, should gratefully receive and effectively strive to fulfill his salutary admonitions and commands. Otherwise, the sentence which the same Andrzej Alojzy, elect, shall lawfully pass against the disobedient, We shall consider valid and, with the help of the Lord, shall order it to be kept inviolably until worthy satisfaction is made.
