Brief of Pope Pius IX appointing Karol Mössing as a Domestic Prelate of His Holiness

PIUS, POPE IX. Beloved Son, greetings and Apostolic Blessing. The merits for which Our Venerable Brother, the Pastor of Lviv of the Latin rite, recommends you to Us, move Us to honor you with a more magnificent dignity, which would be for you a testimony of Our benevolence toward you and an encouragement to strive day by day for even more perfect gifts of grace. Wishing therefore to distinguish you with a special honor, and absolving you only for the validity of this act – and considering you absolved – from all sentences, censures, and ecclesiastical penalties of excommunication and interdict, issued in any way and for any reason, should you have fallen into any, by Our Apostolic Authority, by the power of this Letter, We appoint, establish, and declare you a Domestic Prelate, that is, a Prelate of Our Papal Household, and we include you in the highly esteemed group of such prelates. Therefore, we permit you, beloved son, to be able to and have the right to wear violet vestments, and outside the Roman Curia to also wear a linen garment with sleeves, commonly called a rochet, and to freely and worthily use and enjoy all and individual rights, honors, privileges, prerogatives, and indults which others honored with this noble office use and enjoy by virtue of the rule of law or custom and tradition.
