[P. 2]
Noble Mr. President and Benefactor!
Having learned of the matter spread about my wife's farm, and knowing perfectly well the untruthfulness of the report, I submit a requisition and request that the informants be arrested – whom I ask to be identified, and I believe it is most likely her mother, for this girl, having been ill with fever and diarrhea for two weeks, although she was provided with every comfort, [...] died when her time came. Having expressed this, I remain with all respect

Reading notes
Discrepancy with the Polish inventory summary: the matter concerns accusations of causing the death of a girl (a servant) on the captain's wife's farm, not the death of the wife herself (as per the Ukrainian entry in the inventory: 'служниці'). The letter is signed 'Jb Steczkiewicz' (likely Jakub). Above the word 'umarła' (died), the word (likely 'wkrótce' [soon]) was written in a smaller hand.
