Fr. Potępski Monsieur [representative of the Lviv magistrate]
10 Martij 1721 A[nn]o [March 10, 1721] · Lviv

Father Potępski demands the removal of plague victims from his house opposite the Bernardine convent, where they were placed by the magistrate's decision. The clergyman complains about the contamination of the building and the lack of income necessary to pay off the debt on the property, asking for a resolution to the problem.

Translation / modern text

[P. 2] Sir. I have no opposition to the will and decree of the Lord God, and in this unfortunate plague [...], which one should accept with all due humility, we should nevertheless maintain what belongs to order. My house opposite the Bernardine nuns is in this case the most dangerous, in which, by the order of Your Grace, my Gracious Lord, plague-stricken people have been placed, and it has been so long contaminated that it is difficult – even if the Lord God were to appease this danger – to approach and enter this [P. 3] household. Therefore, I submit to Your Grace, my Gracious Lord, my just claim: let them go to the city, for not only does this house bring me no income so far, but a few souls also need to warm themselves in it. It is not, in truth, my inheritance, but since I have a debt on this household, I need my profit and convenience, which cannot take place in these times. May Your Grace, my Gracious Lord, therefore find a way to facilitate my matter, for which I greatly ask, remaining with all respect Your Grace, my Gracious Noble Lord's entirely well-wishing friend and humble servant, Father Potępski, by his own hand.
