[P. 2]
My Most Gracious Lords and Friends!
Since the will of God, under whose guidance we move, has so ordained that I should no longer spend my days in useless weariness, tempering the further impulses of my life, it has shown through His blessing that this is the path where the end of desires and the sweet benefit of fleeting life should be. Having thus directed my intentions – with the grace and protection of Their Majesties the King and Queen, my Gracious Sovereigns – toward the illustrious house of the Most Illustrious Voivode of Bełz, seeking the lifelong friendship of his own eldest daughter, the Voivodess of Volhynia, I have placed them there in a worthy place. Since, therefore, that day which brings the beginning of life – the second of the month of January in the coming year – has been appointed in Lwów for the joining of hands in a lasting covenant, I most earnestly entreat you, my Gracious Lords, whose kind benevolence toward me I have always known, to be so gracious as to accompany this act in the friendliest manner at that time. I shall be indebted for all my life with every gratitude and obligation, with which I remain at this time
Your Gracious Lords'
kindly benevolent friend
and servant,
Stanisław Potocki, Lithuanian Master of the Hunt, by my own hand.
From Lwów, December 10, 1694.
[P. 3, address:]
To the Noble and Distinguished Mayor, Reeve, Councilors and the entire Magistrate, as well as the Jurors, Estates, and the entire Community of the City of Lwów, my esteemed Friends.
