Translation / modern text
Esteemed Councillors of Lviv, my friends!
I have always tried to serve you whenever I could meet your requests, and I assure you that you will continue to find me ready to help. I know that through your ability you have done and continue to do much to defend the dignity of the monarch and of the entire Commonwealth; gratitude is due to you for this.
Concerning the six thousand złotys for which you now require a receipt from me: since I took that sum from you as a loan on the credit of the Commonwealth treasury, you should receive a receipt for that sum [the sentence is elliptical]. If, however, you charge it to the maintenance of myself and my men during our stay in Lviv, [the following expression is somewhat unclear] that well befits you, since you are not accustomed to err in any matter. Although you thereby place me in a difficult position/cast doubt on the matter [the sense of dubium is provisional], I leave this to your consideration.
As regards the complaints against Mr Radwański, I have already admonished him repeatedly to desist from such conduct and give no grounds for further complaints. I promise to admonish him again in writing and also to rebuke him in person after my arrival in Lviv, which I expect soon, God willing.
I believe that Captain Krzy[s]ki [?], of whom you also complain, will likewise no longer give grounds for further grievances. [The sentence concerning his stay at the High Castle is syntactically unclear; the precise meaning of the announcement has not been established.]
Concerning the iron taken, I am writing to Radwański to arrange a settlement convenient to you [?]. After my arrival in Lviv I promise promptly to deal with the question of the weight of all the iron [the final action has not been securely deciphered]. Meanwhile I commend my services to your favour.
Camp outside Toruń, 9 October 1658.
Your well-wishing friend and servant,
Krzysztof Grodzicki.

Reading notes
All four pages were viewed: one letter with an address, without enclosures. No earlier translation apart from metadata. The notation 8bris means October; 9 October 1658 agrees with the cover. Six thousand is written in words; it is not six hundred. A loan on the treasury’s credit and alternatively charging the sum to the unit’s maintenance are two possible classifications of the same sum, not two payments. Actual issuance of a receipt has not been established. The formula toście... otrzymać is elliptical; it has not been represented as confirmation that a receipt had already been issued. The captain’s surname is uncertain; he has not been identified with a known individual. The conclusion about the iron account is partly undeciphered; no weight or amount has been supplied. The promise to admonish and announcement of arrival do not prove their fulfilment.
