Translation / modern text
Sir. I leave it to Your Excellency to understand the anxiety I am in, after hearing yesterday evening from Mr Cast[ellan] of [surname illegible] [uncertain passage; perhaps: that he had scorned me]. I ask you to have news of this matter obtained for me. Embracing you with a sincere kiss, let this be enough to convince you that I remain entirely, Sir, Your Excellency’s most humble and obedient servant, the Marquis d’Arquian. Lviv, 23 March 1699. [Address:] To His Excellency Mr Cast[ellan] of [reading uncertain], Grand Hetman of the Crown, etc.
