Translation / modern text

[P. 4] My Dear Sir, How can I not remain silent and take up the pen with trepidation, when I see with my own eyes some distrust from Your Graces towards me? Is it my fault? Consider this among yourselves and do justice to the matter. I have committed no offense against you, unless it be that I opposed what is now ruining you. Time, God willing, will reveal both: my well-meaning intentions and your unnecessary attachment to that which is now turning into poison for you. I declare herewith that I am entirely yours, as I was before. Try me and put me to the test when the opportunity arises, and you will recognize, not by words but by the deed itself, that I am a kindly disposed brother and humble servant to the entire illustrious House of Your Graces. Jan Krasiński, Voivode of Płock, by his own hand. In Warsaw, the 3rd of January 1697. Commending myself to the grace of the Most Illustrious Lord Crown Standard-Bearer, I also commend myself to His Grace the Starosta of Bohusław. [P. 5] [Address:] To His Excellency the Voivode of Volhynia

Reading notes

In the inventory, the author is incorrectly identified as the Voivode of Polotsk (instead of Płock). The addressee on the address leaf (p. 5) is titled as the Voivode of Volhynia ('Le Palatin de Wolhinie' – Jan Stanisław Jabłonowski held this office from 1697 to 1702). The postscript mentions the Crown Standard-Bearer (Aleksander Jan Jabłonowski) and the Starosta of Bohusław.
